What is RideWest?
RideWest is inspired to make a difference to mental health for regional Queenslanders. By raising vital funds and awareness of the need for more mental health support programs for people living in regional areas.
RideWest is a 1,311km biennial bike ride from Brisbane to Longreach raising money for mental health support programs for regional Queenslanders.
Over the last 12 years, the ride has raised over $1,400,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service so that they can deliver their Wellbeing Out West program.
In early 2017 the Royal Flying Doctor Service released a research paper entitled “Mental Health in Rural and Remote Communities”. This new research reveals remote Australians die on average from suicide at twice the rate of city people, yet are only able to access mental health services at a fifth of the rate of city people. It also identifies farmers as among the most at risk of suicide.
How are We Involved?
Gravity Espresso is a proud sponsor of RideWest, but it's more than that. Ange Augello, our CEO, has entered the ride this year after being unable to in 2020. Although Melbourne's lockdowns prevented him from travelling to Queensland, Ange still tried his best to cycle within his 5km radius. That means this year he is more determined than ever to give it his all.
Ange has a strong belief in the importance of mental health. Being in and out of lockdowns throughout the pandemic made us all realise how hard it is to be isolated. But some of us are isolated all the time - not just in lockdowns.
Ange, as well as the other 40 riders, have all pledged to raise $5000 each for the cause. In addition to this, Gravity Espresso's sponsorship is worth $7000. These funds will go directly to the Royal Flying Doctor Service to help support Australians in need.
